In its 17th year, the prestigious Gunijan Sangeet Samaroh, organized by Pancham Nishad was held in Indore on with the performances of maestros from the field of Hindustani Classical vocals, instrumentals and folk music. While the two day festival saw the stage being taken up by some of the most noted classical musicians, it also saw a foreign researcher singing Kabir Bhajans alongside noted folk music artist Prahlad Tipania.
“Linda Haze, who was attracted to Kabir Bhajan after listening to Kumar Gandharva sing Kabir songs, she chose to shift her base to India and has been researching into Kabir folk music through Prahlad Tipania and also sings with him in concerts,” Shobha Choudhary, event organiser informed. Tipania along with his team performed Kabir Bhajans in his typical style on Sunday morning. On the first day of the event, US based classical singer Manu Shrivastava performed at the event starting with Raag Jaitshree. The young musician sang a composition which was based on the emotion of love. He was accompanied on Tabla was Tejovrush Joshi and on Harmonium by Vivek Bansod.
This was followed with the Sitar recital of noted Sitar exponent Anupama Bhagwat . She struck the chords of Raag Jhinjhoti in her performance and played an Alaap, Jod and Jhala. This was followed by a recital picked out of Raag Bahaar in the fast paced beat- Dhrut Ektaal.
On Sunday morning, the two artists who performed- Sanjay Garud and Prahlad Tipania focused on some culture based compositions, Garud sang a composition from Raag Ahir Bhairav worded ‘ Rasiya Mhara’, followed by the popular composition ‘Albela Sajan Aayo Re’. He concluded his performance with a semi classical styles Thumri .
The same evening, Goa based artist Naresh Mandgaonkar played Santoor to the tunes of Raag Hans Dhwani which mesmerized the audience. Vocalist Meenal Modak also performed two compositions of Raag Dhankoni Kalyan at the event.
The event culminated with the Dhrupad gayan by Gundecha brothers – Ramakant and Umakant Gundecha who performed the fading form of Dhrupad singing. The two day festival was organized in association with Cultural department of central government.
