As per the Islamic calendar, the first month called Muharram is one of the holiest months. Muharram is considered as the second sacred month in the Islamic calendar; the first being Ramadan (also called Ramazan ). The reason: As per Islam, it was o the tenth day of Muharram during the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD that Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Hussain , had died. And thus to mourn his death, 'Ashura' is observed by Muslims every year on the tenth day of Muharram.
