The International Society for Krishna Consciousness or ISKCON was founded in 1966 in New York City, USA, by A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Swami Prabhupada was born in Kolkata in 1896 and was educated at the Scottish Church College. He became a follower of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati while working in a pharmaceutical business. After his retirement in 1959, he left his family, became a sanyasi, and traveled across India and the West to spread the message of Krishna consciousness.

Traveling across the United States of America, Swami Prabhupada and his disciples popularised the Hare Krishna movement through street chanting (sankirtana), public speeches, and book distribution. The Radha Krishna Utsav 2022 is being supported by industrialist, philanthropist and author Dinesh Shahra, a significant proponent of Sanatan Dharma.
