Navratri 2020: Goddess Kalaratri, the seventh form of Durga and Puja Vidhi and Mantra of the day

On the seventh day of Navratri, Goddess Kalaratri, the seventh avatar of NavaDurga is worshipped with much pomp and show. She is considered to be the most fearsome Goddess who eradicated all signs of evil and darkness from the universe.

It is said that during the war with the demon that had spread devastation everywhere, Goddess Parvati was requested by the other Gods to protect the land.

It’s then she took the form of Kalaratri Devi. She can be seen riding a black donkey and her complexion is dark black. She carried the Abhaya and Varada mudra in her right hand and a sword and an iron hook in her left hands. It is also said that she licked the blood of a demon, Rakta Beeja who could create more demons from his own blood. Her ferocious powers also earned her the name of Goddess Shubhankari.

Worshipping the Goddess on the seventh day can bring good luck to her true devotees. Regular chanting of the Kalaratri mantra can remove all the fear from the heart and her blessings can make the people bold and self-confident. Goddess Kalaratri also bestows peace and a protective shield for her devotees.

Puja Vidhi for the day:

Devotees, on the seventh day, remember the mother Kalratri after bathing and offer incense sticks, flowers and jaggery to her. Maa Kalratri's favourite flower is Ratrani, so, a garland of this flower is prepared specially for this Devi. After this, everyone chants the mantras of Maa Kalratri and finally perform the Aarti of the day.
