Teachers Day Greeting Card Idea: How to make a card for your favourite teacher at home

Teacher’s day is coming up and it's especially important to celebrate your teachers this year. The year 2020 has been a hard time on everyone and teaching, in every field or form, has to change considerably. Classes had to move online and, in the case of some, stop altogether. Many teachers have had to make huge adjustments to continue teaching.

They had to learn how to hold online classes, adjust their curriculum to catch up with lost months and try to discipline a class from a distance, all the while being stuck at home with the same uncertainty everyone is facing. We should be grateful for all the efforts they are putting in to make sure we can still learn and grow.

Teachers are not only those who teach us in schools or colleges. Those teaching us artistic skills online (like singing, dancing or painting), fitness instructors who keep us fit at home, and others holding online short courses or master classes to help people learn new skills should all be appreciated for their time and efforts. And so, penning a note or making a card is the perfect way to express your gratitude when you can't send gifts or meet them in person.

If making a physical card is not be possible to send to your teachers, especially for fear of contamination in Covid times, then you can send them digital pictures of it; save it with you to give it later when times are safer. If they are okay with meeting in person, then you can also drop it off safely or, if they live far you can post it to them.

Here we share how to make a card for your favourite teacher at home.

If making a physical card, find a nice clean sheet of paper in any colour or print and fold it in half. If it has a print you will have to stick some solid colour paper on it to write on. Cut it out in a nice shape, like a star or an oval, and stick it on the outside. Write some of the following messages in big letters and nice handwriting.

Happy Teachers Day

To my favourite teacher

Instead of a star or oval, you can even cut the paper into a shape representing what the teacher teaches you, such as a musical instrument for your music teacher or a laptop for your computer teacher.

Then decorate the outside with stickers, other paper cut outs, washi tape or even draw things yourself with your art supplies (like paints, markers, crayons, colour pencils etc).

If you don't plan on writing much, you can also decorate or draw on one half of the inside of the card. Make sure to leave room on the right side to write a message. Again, if the paper was printed you will need a solid colour paper to stick on. Don't cut it in a complicated shape this time. You can burn the edges for a cool effect or if you're too young or nervous around fire, ask someone else to do it. If you have bad handwriting you can use ruled paper.

When your card is ready make sure to take high-resolution images to send to your teacher, in case you can't give it to them personally.

Since you're most likely to be emailing a picture, you can also send them a digital card. They are no less special than a physical card. You can find many e-cards already made online, just go on your browser and search for, "Teachers day e-cards". Many websites will have all kinds of cards you can send as is or fill in yourself. You can even make a card online. You can simply add words to a photo of you in an image editor or you can find a software or website where you can make your one card.

So send a card to someone who has taught you something this year. It will mean a lot to them.
