When was the last time you had eight hours of uninterrupted sleep without any distractions? Have your sleep patterns gone for a toss since the COVID-19 pandemic hit us? To find out the current sleeping patterns of Indians, LocalCircles, a local social network community, conducted a national study on ‘How India Sleeps’ to mark World Sleep Day (March 17). The study received over 39,000 responses from 309 districts across the country and found out that the Indians’ sleep patterns have deteriorated in the last 12 months and most of us are getting less adequate sleep since last year.
The community social media platform had conducted a survey on the same in 2022 as well. “To understand if some of those sleep disruptions induced by COVID were temporary or permanent in nature and to find out how Indians are sleeping post three years of the pandemic, we conducted a nation-wide study,” mentions the survey. Compared to last year, the study found that the percentage of citizens who are getting less than six hours of uninterrupted sleep has risen in the last 12 months from 50% in 2022 to 55% now.
