Six ways to stick to your diet while traveling

We all have diet plans and fitness routines prepared for other days, it goes for a toss while traveling. Although it is good to give yourself a break from strict diets when you are on vacation there's no harm in following a few easy and simple steps that will ensure you are in shape post-vacation. Komal Patel, Clinical Nutritionist, shares six ways to stick to your diet while traveling

1. Carry nuts and seeds with you
Munching while traveling is a thing. However, snacking on unhealthy items can ruin your diet plan. So, make sure to carry some nuts such as almonds, cashews, walnuts, peanuts, raisins, and dates with you, as they are high in fiber and protein and keep you full for a long time. Also, seeds like flax seeds and pumpkin seeds are extremely nutritious, and you can mix them with your nuts or even in your breakfast bowl to keep your weight in check.

2. Hydrate yourself

One thing that we all ignore while traveling is water. We mostly incline to have soft drinks or aerated water, which definitely satiates your taste buds for a while but is not healthy for your body. Drinking loads of water burn a lot of calories and keep your metabolism rate at a higher level which ensures that you don’t end up adding unnecessary fats to your body. Start your day with a tall glass of water to flush out the toxins from your body and also to hydrate yourself. Also, have water before every meal as it will help with digestion.

3. Do not skip your breakfast

You might have a tight itinerary, and you feel skipping breakfast would save you some time. But you are wrong. If you skip breakfast, you are more likely to end up having heavy foods throughout the day, which will add more calories to your body. Having a filling breakfast will ensure that you don’t crave anything unhealthy. Go for simple breakfasts like cereal with fruits and nuts, along with an egg and a fresh glass of fruit juice or smoothie.

4. Choose light meals for dinner

You should definitely try out the local delicacies but keep your experiments for the day. Keep the night meal as simple and light as possible, as during the night, your body will not store the excess fat. Go for foods that are easy to digest and your body is used to, such foods as lentil soups, rice, chapati with sauteed vegetables, or chicken.

5. Have fruits
Fruits like bananas, apples, and oranges are very nutritious and filling. So, if you wish to stick to your diet and avoid fast foods, snack on fruit. They are easy to digest and good to taste. Most importantly, they will add a lot of essential nutrients to your body which will help your body to fight against cough and cold during travel. No matter where you travel, you will find fresh fruits available in all places. So grab one for yourself and stay away from unhealthy foods.

6. Say no to alcohol
You would certainly like to let yourself loose during your vacation, but alcohol is not a healthy option for you if you want to maintain your diet. Alcohol can easily add up to your weight and make you feel bloated. So, it is best to avoid alcohol during your holidays.
