Selena regularly updates her fans and followers with interesting posts on social media. She discusses several topics on social media and one of the most important ones of those is health.

Selena had opened up on having lupus in 2015. For the unversed, Lupus is a medical condition in which the body's own immune system attacks it. An autoimmune disease, lupus affects major organ systems of the body like joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.

Things to avoid if you have the autoimmune condition Selena Gomez has

While lupus is not a communicable disease, it is linked to genes. As per the US CDC, "sunlight, stress, smoking, certain medicines, and viruses may trigger symptoms in people who are most likely to get lupus due to their genes." Women who are in their fertile years are most likely to develop lupus due to having high levels of estrogen in the body.

As per health agencies, the seriousness of lupus can range from mild to life threatening. The common signs associated with lupus are inflammation and tissue damage in skin, joints, heart, lung, kidneys, circulating blood cells, and brain.

In one of her videos, which she shared on social media, Selena had spoken about the comments made on her body and weight. She had revealed that lupus medication is affecting her weight. ""(When I'm taking it, I) tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally. When I'm off of it, I tend to lose weight," the 30-year-old actor said, adding, "I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what they're going through, and no one knows the real story," she had revealed in a TikTok video.
