'Negligence' in infra projects: 18 MCG officials to face action

GURUGRAM: MCG’s vigilance wing has completed investigations in 70 out of 139 complaints filed against officials of the corporation and found 18 staffers responsible for negligence in development works going across the city.

MCG commissioner PC Meena has now written to the urban local bodies department in Chandigarh recommending action against these officials.


According to official, the civic body received 139 complaints over the alleged role of various MCG officials in irregularities in development works. The complaints had been forwarded to the vigilance wing for probes.

Meena said the vigilance team has submitted report after completing investigations of 70 complaints, and strict action will be taken against the accused officials after the complaints are reviewed by the departments concerned. “The functioning of all departments within the corporation is being strictly monitored and any official indulging in wrongdoings will not be spared,” he added.

The 18 accused officials include four executive engineers, five sub-divisional officers, five junior engineers, two supervisors, a fire officer and a taxation officer. It was found during the probe that the development works being carried out by various agencies were not as per the norms and the quality of construction material was substandard. These officials were part of the entire process, starting from issuing work to payments made to these agencies.

Recently, MCG ordered action against four engineers and a contractor for carrying out sub-standard work in constructing a 1.5 km road in Sarai Alawardi village. All 12 samples taken from the road were found to be not up the mark. The width, thickness and strength of road was not according to the norms. The civic body, which incurred losses of around Rs 45 lakh, had also ordered recovery of cost from the accused.
