President clears 2 names for high court

Vijayawada: President Draupadi Murmu cleared the names of Venkata Jyothirmai Pratapa and Venuthurumalli Gopala Krishna Rao for appointment as additional judges of Andhra Pradesh high court. The Union ministry of law and justice issued a notification on Tuesday appointing Jyothirmai and Rao as additional judges of the high court for a period of two years.

The Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Justice DY Chandrachud recently recommended the names of Jyothirmai and Rao to the Union government for appointing them as judges of AP high court.

While Jyothirmai is presently working as principal district judge, East Godavari, Rao is working as first additional district judge, Guntur. Andhra Pradesh high court is having a sanctioned strength of 37 judges. Presently the HC is functioning with 30 judges. With the inclusion of Jyothirmai and Rao, the strength of AP high court will reach 32. - Srikanth Aluri
