Cheerleaders should start dancing only...: Varun Chakaravarthy's cheeky remark on 'new trend' of free-flowing boundaries this IPL

NEW DELHI: With 250-run mark being breached on multiple occasions and boundaries raining left, right and centre this Indian Premier League season, Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has suggested that the cheerleaders should only dance on sixes and not when fours are hit by the batters.

It is a kind of a tradition in the IPL that cheerleaders are seen dancing at stadiums whenever boundaries are hit or wickets fall, when the two sides are playing.

And amid a boundary fest this IPL season, where a record number of boundaries are being hit, cheerleaders have been dealing with an overload of work.

"Unfortunately that has become the trend and maybe they should dance only for the sixes and not for fours (laughs), " said Player of the Match Varun in the post-match presentation.

Varun worked his magic to claim three important wickets before Phil Salt's scintillating half-century as Kolkata Knight Riders secured a convincing seven-wicket win over Delhi Capitals in Kolkata on Monday.

Chakaravarthy (3/16) shone in the middle overs following Vaibhav Arora's fine start (2/29) that limited Delhi to a modest 153/9 after Rishabh Pant opted to bat.

After going for a plenty in the last game against Punjab Kings, Varun bounced back in style on Monday with a match-winning effort. Varun admitted that he got assistance from the pitch as it turned more in the second half.

"It (the pitch) was holding a bit and you could see as the game progressed, it was turning more. Cricket has become a game of fine margins. Mostly when something does not go well for me, he is always there. After conceding so many runs in the last game, it was a tough pill. Everyone, including Abhishek Nayar and Shahrukh Khan spoke to me and that was nice," Varun said.

With the sixth win of the season in 9 matches, KKR maintained their second spot on the points table. The win was also KKR's 8th in 10 matches at home against the Capitals.
