MI successfully defended their total of 192 for 7 for a nine-run win despite Ashutosh Sharma's blistering 61 off 28 balls.
However, MI were found short by two overs in completing their 20 overs within the stipulated time. As a result, captain Hardik was fined Rs 12 lakh for violating the IPL Code of Conduct pertaining to over-rates.

"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 12 lakhs," the BCCI said in a release on Thursday.

Mumbai's slow over-rate also resulted in an on-field penalty, where they were allowed to have one fielder less on the boundary ropes in the last two overs of Punjab's innings.

"It was a very good game. Everyone's nerves got tested. We spoke that the characters would be checked in this game. It is natural you think you are ahead but IPL tends to show that opposition can come back, and how," said Hardik after his team's thrilling win.

Mumbai's bowling attack was led by three wickets each by Jasprit Bumrah (3 for 21) and Gerald Coetzee (3 for 32), who got the prize wicket of Ashutosh in the 18th over to tilt the game back in favour of MI.
