Sunrisers Hyderabad register unique feat while chasing 166-run target against LSG

NEW DELHI: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) etched their name in the annals of Indian Premier League ( IPL ) history by becoming the first team ever to achieve 100-plus runs twice during the powerplay.

This remarkable feat was accomplished during their resounding 10-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2024 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday.

SRH's prolific performance saw them amass the second-highest powerplay totals in IPL history, with a staggering 125 runs scored against Delhi Capitals in a previous encounter.

Travis Head , the opener for Sunrisers Hyderabad, delivered a scintillating display with the bat, notching up SRH's third-fastest fifty. Head reached his half-century in a mere 16 balls, showcasing his immense batting prowess.

The Hyderabad-based franchise also scripted history by recording the fastest-ever 150 runs in the IPL, reaching the milestone in just 8.2 overs.

Under the leadership of Pat Cummins , SRH achieved yet another milestone by successfully chasing down the highest total within 10 overs in men's T20 cricket.

Reflecting on the match, LSG opted to bat first after winning the toss. However, their innings got off to a sluggish start, managing just 57 runs in the first 10 overs while losing three wickets. Skipper KL Rahul struggled, contributing only 29 runs to the team's total.

In the latter half of the innings, Ayush Badoni (55*) and Nicholas Pooran (48*) orchestrated a remarkable recovery with a crucial 99-run partnership, guiding LSG to a competitive total of 165/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar emerged as the top bowler for LSG, claiming 2 wickets, while Pat Cummins also chipped in with a wicket.

In the pursuit of 166 runs, SRH openers Travis Head (89*) and Abhishek Sharma (75*) launched a relentless onslaught on the LSG bowlers, steering their team to victory in just 9.4 overs without losing a single wicket.

With this emphatic win, SRH strengthened their position in the IPL standings, occupying the third spot with seven wins, five losses, and 14 points, while LSG remained in sixth place with six wins, six losses, and 12 points.
