Are you guilty of threatening your children to get work done? Accept it or not, we all have threatened our children to get some work done at one point or the other.

But is it the right thing to do? Not really!

Here is what Dr Pallavi Rao Chaturvedi, a Parenting expert has to say about what are the long term effects of threats? And easy ways we can avoid it.

Drawback 1

Threats work out till the child is in your control. Once the child becomes independent, it won't work.

Drawback 2

Threats scar the long-term parent-child relationship in more ways than one.

Drawback 3

Threats lose value after a point. If you will threaten your kids all the time, they won't care anymore.

Try to make the task interesting and playful. You can gamify the task or participate with them.

Reward and recognition work as positive motivators among children.

Appeal to the logical and rational intellect of the child. Try and make them understand why something has to be done.
