Legit goals: Desi wedding with a tinge of 'you may kiss the bride'

Traditions are something that holds a special place in everyone’s heart and help in defining who we are as a person. While we can decide for most things, what we want to do, who to associate with, what’s best for us or what’s not, traditions come to us naturally. They are beautiful and let you be true to your roots. Although with changing times, a little tweak here and a little change there is what is very much expected of course.

Change is the law of nature and as time progresses, it calls for changes be it big or small, significant, or not-so-significant. Traditions too should be progressed as time goes by because people change, generations change, their expectations and imaginations change. That is how we grow as a society. Marriages and all its customs are beautiful in their own ways but tweaking them every once a while will be very helpful.

When the father of the groom said - ‘You may kiss the bride’

Something super amazing happened during a desi wedding ceremony of “Viren Khuller and Vidushi Sharma”. Post the ritualistic norms, the father of the groom asked the couple to kiss each other in the Hindi version of “You may kiss the bride”. Everyone was shocked and burst into laughter at the request. The bride and groom also blushed and started laughing. Pandit Ji was the most scandalized, but finally gave his permission. And with everyone’s permission and to keep up with the expectations, the bride and groom kissed.

While the basic rituals should continue to be the same, a little touch of modernity is very much required every on and off because that’s how people want to see things. While back in the day, people even didn’t see their brides/grooms and married off a stranger, these days they talk and get to know each other well before setting anything up. Pre-Wedding shoots, destination weddings, etc. are all some of the new traditions that have been added and make the weddings even more fun.

It might be the first time at an Indian wedding because this is more of a western tradition, but this surely broke the stigma of public display of affection. With the families coming up front with such requests, it makes it a lot more comfortable for the new member to adjust in their set up and increases acceptance. To many more, breaking the norms and displaying love.
