Story: Targeted by a notorious drug and martial arts gang, siblings Rishi and Rithu face a tragedy. They use their own expertise in wingchen to get back at the criminals

Review: Director Abrid Shine 's movies are theme based and he usually uses them to good effect, telling simple, enjoyable stories about police work or cricket crazy youngsters. He ups the ambition and scale with Kung Fu Master, but fails to connect with the audience in the same way as his earlier films. And the reason? Simply that there is too little action for a film that is titled Kung Fu Master.

The first half of the 126-minute movie is taken to establish the sweet family dynamics of siblings Rishi and Rithu Ram, played by newcomer Jiji Scaria and Neeta Pillai . These scenes are repeated more often than necessarily in the more action packed second half.

The first half is, disappointingly, almost devoid of action. Things begin to get interesting when, after being targeted by a druggie martial arts champion, played by Sanoop D , the siblings get into revenge mode. But it's almost a case of too little too late, except when it comes to the violence, of which there is too much, coming from these siblings.

The action choreography is headed by Abrid Shine and is exciting, though low on the novelty factor. It is, however, very interesting to see Neeta Pillai look athletic and take on the bad guys; she looks very believable doing so. Jiji Scaria is also good with his fast punches, which is kind of the highlight of the action sequences. Sanoop is exaggeratedly menacing.

Basically, the story is quite slim with weak characterisation. There is no real chemistry between the siblings, and it is not clear why Rishi would endanger his sister with trying to get revenge, under his circumstances. Dialogues like, 'we're sending you to hell' and 'welcome to the melodies of heaven' don't pack the expected punch.

The movie on the whole progresses very predictably but watch if you want to see a girl trade punches with panache.
