BJP, Modi have violated 'Satyamev Jayate': Priyanka Gandhi

KALABURAGI/BENGALURU: Congress functionary Priyanka Gandhi , alluding to the Narendra Modiled BJP govt at the Centre, on Mo nda y said ‘Satyameva Jayathe’, the guiding principle of the country, has been “violated and shredded” over the past decade, an oblique reference to 10 years of the NDA rule.

Addressing an election rally at Sedam, Priyanka said: “Mahathma Gandhi used to say the people of India prefer to encourage truth.
But in the past 10 years, the path of politics has changed and there is no space for truth.”

She said Umesh Jadhav, the incumbent Gulbarga MP of BJP, did nothing to develop the constituency, which was represented by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge till 2019.

“The railway division for Kalaburagi was approved, but the NDA govt withdrew it as Kalaburagi is home to Mallikarjun Kharge. PM had given big assurances of making Kalaburagi a tur hub but did nothing,” Priyanka said.

She lamented that the media has remained silent on BJP’s vindictive politics that saw two chief ministers being sent to jail. “No media will report or question it when Delhi police come to Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s house as they [media houses] are all under the influence of rich businessmen,” she said.

Targeting PM Narendra Modi , the Congress general secretary said he talks “gibberish” and is seeking to divide the electorate on Hindu Muslim lines. She also targeted Modi and home minister Amit Shah over the alleged sex scandal involving HD Revanna and his MP son Prajwal of the JD(S) first family, accusing them of “protecting those who committed atrocities against women”. JD(S) has allied with BJP for this Lok Sabha election.

“Modi shared the stage with the person [Prajwal Revanna] and sought votes for a person who committed atrocities on thousands of women. What do Modi and Shah have to say about it,” she said. “This type of demon leaves the country and they do not know? How can we trust them? They keep tabs on all functionaries of the opposition but someone who commits such a big crime leaves the country right under their nose and they have no information about it.”

She urged women to seek accountability of the PM. “The PM should not dare ask about anyone’s ‘mangalsutra’ until the accused (Prajwal) returns from abroad.”
