Jharkhand MLAs land in Hyderabad for 'safekeeping' till floor test
HYDERABAD: It was back to ' resort politics ' for the 38 MLAs of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led coalition 'Mahagathbandhan' in Jharkhand as they were flown down from Ranchi to the Begumpet airport here on Friday. Senior Congress MLAs have started facilitating their stay here till the time a floor test is held at the Jharkhand assembly.
The MLAs came in two special aircraft and were received by senior Congress leaders, including AICC general secretary in charge of Telangana, Deepa Das Munsi, transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar and AICC secretary S A Sampath Kumar.
They were escorted to a private resort on the city outskirts at Shamirpet to avoid possible poaching. The Telangana Congress leadership booked over 60 rooms in the resort. Local Congress leaders, including those appointed as caretakers for the legislators, will stay in the resort.
The 38 MLAs from JMM and Congress boarded the flights from Ranchi airport hours after senior JMM leader Champai Soren took oath as the chief minister along with two cabinet ministers. However, Champai and two cabinet ministers--senior Congress leader Alamgir Alam and RJD leader Satyanand Bhokta did not come.
The state Congress leadership here has deployed one leader for every 8 MLAs from Jharkhand to take care of their requirements. They are expected to stay put for at least two days before leaving for Jharkhand to participate in the floor test on February 5. The JMM alliance will formally announce the date of floor test soon as the governor has given them 10 days to prove their majority.
Sources said they may leave at 7am on February 5 in two special aircraft, or may prolong their stay here depending on the floor test date. JMM is part of the INDIA bloc. Sources said on the directions of the AICC, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee made all arrangements for their stay at the resort.
