NRIs to roll out car rally 'for PM Narendra Modi's re-election'

For the first time, non-resident Indians ( NRIs ), including Gujaratis , are gearing up for a car rally from Ahmedabad to Surat. Their aim? To rev up support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s quest for a third consecutive term.
Digant Sompura, convener of state BJP Videsh Sampark Vibhag, said about 100 cars will be fl agged off from the Sabarmati Riverfront on Sunday, April 28.
Sompura said that car rallies in support of Modi have already been held in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Europe and Africa. A rally with 400 cars was held in the UK on the day the Election Commission of India announced the Lok Sabha polls, he said, adding that London-based Dipak Patel, secretary of Overseas Friends of the BJP, had organized the event.

Now, they have decided to hold such a car rally in India, and they have chosen Gujarat for that, he said. Covering nearly 270 km, the rally will pass through nine Lok Sabha constituencies. Sompura said the rally will pass through Nadiad, Anand, Vadodara, and Bharuch towns before culminating in Surat in the evening. Gujarat BJP president CRPaatil will receive the participants and have dinner with them.

He added, “Apart from Gujaratis, NRIs from Rajasthan, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab will participate in the car rally.”

In the past, Gujaratis settled in other countries have actively campaigned for the BJP as well as other major parties in assembly and general elections in the state. This time, while groups affi liated with organizations like the Overseas Friends of BJP) advocate for continuity in developmental initiatives, others are telling voters to bring in change for the greater good.
