This day falls on Purnima Tithi in the month of Chaitra.

Hanuman Jnamotsav is one of the major festivals in Hindu religion. This is an auspicious day to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman. People celebrate this day with great grandeur and enthusiasm and observe fast to seek blessings of Hanuman Ji. They visit various famous temples to worship Bajrangbali.

According to Hindu Scriptures, Hanuman Ji was born to king Kesari and Mata Anjani. He is among Ashta Chiranjeevi who is still alive and present on this earth. He is also known as the Rudra Avtar of Lord Shiva. Hanuman Ji is called by various names such as Maruti Nandan, Bajrangbali, Pawan Putra, Veer Hanumana, Sundar (this name was given by his mother in his childhood) and Sankat Mochan who removes all the sufferings of his devotees. Hanuman is know for his power and strength and it is believed that Hanuman Ji can do anything and everything even those things, which seems impossible for anyone. There is a story in Ramayana when Lord Hanuman saved Laxman and carried a whole mountain on his shoulder to bring the sanjeevani booti.

As per Hindu Mythology, Anjana was an Apsara (Nymph), she got cursed by a sage and that is why she took birth on earth. She could only get rid of this curse after giving birth to a son. According to the Valmiki Ramayana, the father of Hanuman was Kesari, the King of the place Sumeru. Anjana prayed to Shiva for 12 long years in desire to have a son. Lord Shiva fulfilled her wishes and then Hanuman was born.

Story of Lord Hanuman

When Maa Sita was abducted by Ravana, Hanuman was not able to locate the place where Ravana kept Mata Sita then he used his intellect and power to build an army to reach Lanka and save Sita. He once reached to Lanka to find Sita Mata and there he burned Lanka and killed Ravana's son Akshay Kumar. He used his power to become so tiny so that he could enter in the kingdom of Ravana. There are many noticeable incidents happen in Ramayana from finding Goddess Sita, burning the Lanka from his tail and holding mountain for sanjeevni booti to save Laxman.

His Presence During Mahabharata Battle

As we all know that Lord Hanuman is Chiranjeevi and he is living on earth so at the time of Mahabharata Yuddha, Lord Krishna requested Hanuman Ji to come and be present there on the Arjun's chariot. As per the legends, if Lord Hanuman was not there on the chariot, the victory was not at all possible and as per the scripture Chariot turned into ashes when Arjun left the chariot.

Hanuman Janmotsav is celebrated across the country by all the Hindus with great enthusiasm and fervor. All the Hanuman temples are decorated with flowers and lights and devotees visit these temples to offer prayers to Hanuman Ji.

Many people organise Ramayana Akhanda Paath to seek blesisngs of Lord Shri Ram and Hanuman Jion this auspicious day of Hanuman Janmotsav. Conducting Sundar Kaand Path is also considered meritorious on this day.

Food Stalls or Bhandara are organised to feed needy and poor people. On this day, Hanuman ji is adorned with flowers, new clothes, golden and silver vark, and jewellery. The people who belong to sports, wrestling and martial arts, they offer special prayers to Hanuman Ji to seek blessings as they considered Bajrangbali as their Guru who give them strength and power to fight with anyone.

People get into many religious and spiritual activities on this propitious day to seek blessings of Pawan Putra Hanuman. They take sankalp of reciting 108 hanuman chalisa on this day and some people get ivolved in bhajan and kirtan.
