Sony launches compact wide-angle F2.8 Zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras in India

Sony has launched the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G , a new wide-angle zoom lens for its full-frame Alpha mirrorless camera lineup in India. Maintaining a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture throughout its zoom range, the lens combines professional-grade image quality with a remarkably compact and lightweight design.

Weighing just 409 grams, the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G is Sony's latest addition to its premium G series of lenses.

It offers a versatile 16-25mm focal length range, making it suitable for landscapes, architecture, astrophotography, environmental portraits, and even selfies when using the flip-out screen on Sony's mirrorless bodies.

The new lens features an advanced optical formula with three extra-low dispersion elements and four aspherical elements to minimize aberrations and maintain high resolution across the frame. Its 11-blade circular aperture diaphragm renders smooth, pleasing bokeh, while a minimum focusing distance of 0.18 meters enables close-up shooting capabilities.

Catering to both photographers and videographers , the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G employs two linear motors for fast, accurate, and near-silent autofocus performance. It supports high-speed continuous shooting at up to 120fps with Sony's latest Alpha 9 III camera when using the electronic shutter. Video shooters benefit from reduced focus breathing and smooth focus transitions.

The lens is designed to be a versatile tool. Its physical controls include a focus hold button, customizable focus mode switch, and an aperture ring with a clickless option for video work. It features a dust—and moisture-resistant construction with a fluorine coating to protect the front element.

Thanks to its retracting design, the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G lens boasts a surprisingly compact footprint. When retracted, Sony claims it is roughly the same size and weight as the existing FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM lens, making it an ideal travel and everyday photography companion.

The new FE 16-25mm F2.8 G lens will be available across Sony retail channels in India starting April 25, 2024, with a suggested retail price of Rs 124,990.
