Manipur BJP leader shot dead near his home

GUWAHATI: Unidentified gunmen shot dead general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s ex-servicemen cell of Manipur , Laishram Rameshwor Singh , near his home in Kshetri Leikai area of Thoubal district on Tuesday morning.

Police said the incident took place between 10.30 and 11.30am.

The 50-year-old Singh, who received bullets in his chest was rushed to a private hospital but succumbed to his injury at around 1pm.

“We are not in a position to say who is behind this at this moment,” a top Manipur police officer said.

A source said that at least three gunmen were seen in an SUV without any registration number.
