JAMSHEDPUR: Postgraduate (PG) studies in all subjects of medicine will begin at state-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College ( MGMMC ) in Jamshedpur from this academic session as the National Medical Commission ( NMC ) has granted permission.
Sources said the admission process started on Wednesday for the 33 seats.
Till date, after completing MBBS course, students from this college had to move to other colleges for PG courses as all subjects were not available.
The MGMMC in Jamshedpur which started operating from 1961 offered PG degree in six subjects and seats available were only 11.
Principal of the college, Dr K N Singh , was excited about this new development. He said the increase in PG seats at MGMMC is a great feat achieved as it has been a long pending demand.
He thanked the efforts taken by state health minister Banna Gupta in this connection.
He was also hopeful that this would fill the demand supply gap of specialist doctors in the state.
