Tender coconut is not only a great way to keep yourself hydrated this summer but also packs a punch in flavour and texture. What makes this ingredient versatile is the sweetness that works like magic in desserts, savouries and even drinks! Read on to know how to add it to your meals.

Savoury bites

While coconut is the popular choice when it comes to curries, this ingredient can be used for more. Chef Urvika Kanoi says, “Slice it up, add it to salads or blend tender coconut to make dressings with miso, chilli and garlic.”

Smoothies FTW

Be it a healthy snack or a post-workout meal, a smoothie is always a delight. Adding coconut can be a great way to pack in nutrients like vitamin C, potassium, sodium, calcium into your smoothie. “Pair the tender coconut flesh and water with mango, lychee and pineapple,” says Sneha Singhi, food consultant.

The versatility of tender coconut helps it being included in many kinds of foods. Along with being a hero in Asian cuisines, its presence is seen in modern European food as well – Chef Majnunath Mural

Sip on coconutty freshness

Everyone knows how refreshing coconut water is, but did you know it can be added to different drinks too? Enjoyed in South East Asian countries, Buko juice – coconut water blended with condensed milk served with ice – is a refreshing drink. “This drink is usually served with fresh shredded coconut which adds a sweet bite,” says Chef Mural. Don’t forget to add chilled coconut water to tropical cocktails too.

The main character in desserts

Thanks to its sweetness, tender coconut can help add a natural fruitiness to your summer desserts. Chef Majnunath Mural recommends using this fruit for gelato and ice creams to beat the heat. Try flavouring your puddings, custards and panna cotta with coconut or use the flesh like pasta sheets to layer your desserts along with fruits as Chef Urvika Kanoi suggests.
