The Linnean Society of London appoints Dr Ashwin Kumar as its fellow of the year

DEHRADUN: The former director general of Indian Council of Forest Research and Education (ICFRE), Dr Ashwin Kumar has been appointed as fellow of one of the oldest scientific society in the world - The Linnean Society of London . The society was established in 1788. This is a rare honour to a scientist based on his overall achievements in the field of life sciences.




Dr Ashwani Kumar is a member of Indian Forest Service 1980 batch. He served Government of India since 1980 and was also chancellor of Forest Research Institute (FRI) deemed university. Based on his research on Tree Improvement and Forest Genetics, he was awarded a Doctor in Science degree is 1999. Another Doctor in Science degree(h.c.) was awarded to him in 2015. He has done his post doctoral specialisation from Oxford University, England. He has authored five books and more than 50 other publications in national as well as international Journal.

The election is carried out at Society’s meeting where the elected candidate is to get more than two third votes.
