2 Indian students found dead at Scottish sightseeing spot

LONDON: Two Indian students were Wednesday found dead in the water at a popular sightseeing spot in Scotland. The bodies of the two men were recovered on Wednesday night by emergency services from the water at the Linn of Tummel, picturesque roaring waterfalls surrounded by rocks situated northwest of Pitlochry in Perthshire, where the rivers Garry and Tummel meet.

TOI understands four friends, all students at Dundee University, were trekking when two of the men fell into the water and drowned. The deceased were aged 22 and 27. The two other students called emergency services. Police, fire and ambulance services rushed to the scene.

A spokesperson for the Indian high commission in London said: "Two India students hailing from Andhra Pradesh drowned in an unfortunate incident Wednesday evening and their bodies were found a little downstream. Consulate general of India has been in touch with families of the students and a consular official has met the relative of one the students who lives in the UK. University of Dundee has assured of all help. The post-mortem is expected to take place on 19 April and thereafter procedures for repatriating bodies to India will be done."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7pm on Wednesday, we received a report of two men in the water at the Linn of Tummel waterfall near Blair Atholl. Emergency services attended and following searches in the area, the bodies of two men were recovered from the water. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. However, there would not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding these deaths. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal (public prosecutor with the powers to impose fines, in Scotland)."
