WHO fears possible community spread of monkeypox

GENEVA: A World Health Organization ( WHO ) senior official on Friday apprehended that there can be community spread of Monkeypox .

The senior official, however, said during a technical briefing that Monkeypox is not a disease public should worry about, citing slower transmission.

"The priority needs to be containing monkeypox in non-endemic countries.

This can be achieved through quick action. We think if we put the right measures in place now we can contain it easily," Sylvie Briand, WHO director for Global Infectious Hazard Preparedness said at the technical briefing to member states at the UN health agency's annual assembly.
