Chikkamagaluru: A 13-year-old girl reportedly died by suicide in Sahyadri Pura near Lingadahalli in Tarikere taluk, allegedly after being upset over not having a school uniform.

The deceased has been identified as Nanditha, a student who had returned to school this year after a two-year break. She reportedly did not have even an old uniform to wear. According to sources, teachers at the school questioned her for not wearing a uniform.

Following this, Nanditha returned home and asked her parents for a new uniform. Her father assured her that the uniform would be arranged within two days. However, she allegedly consumed poison later that day. Though she was rushed to a hospital, she could not be saved.

A case has been registered at Lingadahalli police station, and further investigation is underway.

No pressure on students over uniforms, says education official
Rudrappa, the Block Education Officer of Birur division, said that schools received uniforms only two days ago and students were given time until July to get them stitched. “No pressure was being put on students regarding uniforms. It is still unclear what led the student to take this extreme step,” he said.

Suicide is preventable. If you get any such thoughts, consult or seek expert help.
