Imran Khan Recalls Living In Gurukul At Age 11-12 Without Electricity: We Lit Kerosine Lamps Every Night

Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na actor Imran Khan said that his personality is not limited to the screens, revealing that he has had a diverse life beyond the realms of the entertainment world. He mentioned his unique upbringing, moving between schools, cities and countries, in a recent interview. He also mentioned how there was a time when he lived without electricity in Gurukul.



Imran About His Time In Gurukul Recalling days he spent without electricity, Imran told Film Companion, "I've been to a number of very unorthodox non-traditional schools. I spent some of my formative years, aged 11 to 15, in a gurukul literally without electricity."

He added, "We lit kerosine lamps every night, that's how we had light. We farmed, we grew our own food, we got water from a stream, we chopped firewood. As such, I have always had the sense that life is kind of bigger."

He also shared that after successes in Bollywood, there came a point in his life when he felt disconnected from his true self. This prompted him to focus on his mental well-being and quietly step away from the showbiz. Imran added, "It is not my job to be an actor. I can be an actor if I want, I cannot be an actor if I don't want these things. That was optional, fixing myself is not optional."

More About Imran Khan Imran is the nephew of Aamir Khan and the grandson of director-producer Nasir Hussain. Imran made his debut as a child artist in the films Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak
(1988) and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992).

After gaining popularity with movies like Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, I Hate Luv Storys, Luck, Break Ke Baad, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, and more, Imran acted in Katti Batti with Kangana Ranaut in 2015, which flopped at the box office. That was his final film before he disappeared from Bollywood, but he has now thrilled his fans by confirming his return.
