It's death of democracy in Bihar: JMM
Ranchi: Ruling JMM, which is leading the INDIA bloc govt here, maintained that it would have enhanced the performance of the alliance in Bihar if the key parties had shown wisdom in accommodating the tribal party. As the verdict for the Bihar assembly polls was out, the RJD-led alliance, without JMM, faced a humiliating defeat. Congress, which is also a key alliance partner, could not even reach a double-digit figure.

JMM received the boot during the seat-sharing agreement in Bihar, forcing it to pull out of the electoral race despite announcing to go solo on six seats in bordering pockets with tribal populations. The party also claimed that because of the EC’s SIR in Bihar, democracy is dead in the neighbouring state.
JMM MP Mahua Maji also claimed on Friday that the “last-minute discrimination” against her party during the seat-sharing arrangement among the mahagathbandhan constituents in Bihar reflected in the “dismal show” of the opposition bloc.
Reacting to the poll verdict, JMM’s central general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said here, “Hum rahte toh nischit mahagatbandhan ko majboot karte (If we had been there, we would have strengthened the grand alliance). We said this before, too, that they made a mistake in Chhattisgarh, and repeated the same in Bihar as well, due to which they saw the outcome today.”
He added that the central leadership of RJD and Congress must ponder on the struggles of Adivasis and Dalits and the party that has fought for them for decades. “If they had that wisdom, we (JMM) should have been part of the mahagatbandhan in Bihar. He (Tejashwi Yadav) should have realised the significance of Hemant Soren ji, our leader,” he said.
In Jharkhand, RJD, part of the INDIA bloc, has one minister in Hemant's cabinet. After the seat-sharing debacle, JMM had stressed the need to review the alliance with RJD, with some of the party workers seeking to remove the RJD representative from Hemant’s cabinet.
However, Bhattacharya said, “The party will still do a review of everything and our leaders will take an appropriate decision at the right time.”.
JMM also hit out at the EC over SIR in Bihar ahead of the assembly polls. “More than ‘Janadesh’, today’s verdict looks more like ‘Gyanadesh’,” he said, alleging how the EC worked in favour of BJP (NDA).
“We never saw someone fighting 101 seats and winning 95 or 96. Hence, we will still say it is the death of democracy in Bihar,” he added.
