NDA retains dominance in Patna district, wins 11 out of 14 seats
Patna: In a resounding affirmation of its grip on Bihar’s political landscape, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) clinched 11 out of the 14 assembly constituencies in Patna district in the 2025 Bihar legislative assembly elections, leaving the opposition INDIA bloc with just three.
The results, declared on Friday, underscored a dramatic shift from the more fragmented outcomes of 2020, when the NDA managed only five seats amid a razor-thin statewide majority. Patna, the bustling heart of Bihar and home to 14 constituencies spanning 43% urban strongholds, emerged as a BJP-JD(U) fortress this time, with the alliance's coordinated campaign on development, women's empowerment and anti-corruption resonating strongly with voters.

Among the district's battlegrounds, four urban seats — Patna Sahib, Bankipur, Kumhrar and Digha — stood out as the NDA's crown jewels, each witnessing BJP heavyweights retain their strongholds with margins that dwarfed their 2020 leads.
Bihar minister Nitin Nabin — a three-time MLA — retained his Bankipur seat with 98,299 votes, defeating RJD’s Rekha Kumari by a colossal 51,936 votes. Edging Congress’s Luv Sinha by 41,000 votes in 2020 amid celebrity glamour and debates over traffic and student hostels, Nabin's 2025 triumph solidified the NDA loyalty among affluent Kayastha and Rajput voters. With a voter base exceeding 2,50,000, Bankipur’s 40.97% turnout — up from 35.85% five years ago — reflected deepening support, fuelled by Nabin's focus on metro rail, flyovers and green spaces.
The BJP’s Sanjay Kumar elevated the Kumhrar seat by clinching 1,00,485 votes, with a 47,524-vote margin over Congress’s Indradeep Kumar Chandravanshi. With ancient Patliputra ruins dotting its landscape, Kumhrar's 39.57% turnout reflected a voter shift against dynasty. The seat was a stronghold of BJP’s Arun Kumar Sinha since 2005.
Meanwhile, Ratnesh Kumar of the BJP amplified the party’s dominance in the Patna Sahib seat, storming to victory with 1,30,366 votes, a commanding 38,900-vote margin over Congress’s Shashant Shekhar. Kumar’s campaign, emphasising infrastructure upgrades around Takaht Sri Harimandir Patna Sahib Gurdwara and flood mitigation along river Ganga, tapped into local frustrations with waterlogging and unemployment, flipping a modest 2020 turnout of 52.2% into a 59.9% mobilisation.
Another BJP heavyweight, Sanjiv Chaurasia, who had earlier won the Digha seat in 2010 amid flood-related infrastructure woes, won with 1,11,001 votes in 2025, defeating CPI(ML)’s Divya Gautam — cousin of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput — by a staggering 59,079 votes. Digha's diverse electorate posted a robust 41.4% turnout.
Beyond these urban strongholds, the NDA's broader Patna haul included several high-stakes reversals and retentions. In Mokama, JD(U)'s Anant Singh — despite his incarceration — defeated RJD’s Veena Devi (wife of strongman Surajbhan Singh) by 28,206 votes, flipping the seat from his wife Neelam Devi’s 2020 RJD win.
In Danapur, BJP's Ram Kripal Yadav ousted RJD strongman Ritlal Roy by winning 1,19,877 votes. Phulwari (SC) saw JD(U)’s Shyam Rajak trounce sitting CPI(ML) MLA Gopal Ravidas by 32,657 votes, while in Masaurhi (SC), sitting RJD MLA Rekha Devi lost to the JD(U)’s Arun Manjhi by 7,643 votes. The NDA also swept Barh — where BJP’s Siyaram Singh defeated RJD’s Karnveer Singh Yadav by 24,813 votes — and Bikram, where BJP’s Siddharth Saurav defeated Congress’s Anil Kumar by 5,601 votes.
In Bakhtiyarpur, the RJD’s sitting MLA Aniruddh Kumar Yadav fell agonisingly short, losing to LJP(RV)’s Arun Kumar by a mere 981 votes.
Among the rest three seats, Fatuha was retained by RJD’s Ramanand Yadav, who won with a margin of 7,922 votes, defeating LJP(RV)’s Rupa Kumari, Bhai Birendra held Maner with 1,10,798 votes — both echoing 2020's Yadav strongholds. In Paliganj, CPI(ML-Liberation)’s Sandeep Saurav retained his seat with a narrow 6,655-vote margin over LJP(RV)'s Sunil Kumar, defying the NDA wave through grassroots mobilisation.
