NIT Manipur assistant registrar suspended over allegations of financial irregularities and misconduct
Imphal: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur has suspended its assistant registrar (establishment), Laikangbam Dorendro Singh, following allegations of financial irregularities and misconduct. The institute announced the suspension on Friday, citing charges against Singh that include misuse of official position, violation of financial propriety norms, and conduct unbecoming of an employee.

The Board of Governors (BOG) of NIT Manipur examined the allegations during its 36th and 45th meetings earlier this year. After reviewing the case, the BOG directed the suspension of the official pending disciplinary proceedings. The suspension order was issued on Thursday and took immediate effect.
A statement from the institute’s PRO indicated that the suspension aims to ensure a fair and impartial inquiry, as the officer’s continued presence in the office could potentially influence the investigation.
Under the suspension terms, Dorendro Singh is prohibited from leaving the station without written permission and will receive a subsistence allowance in accordance with government rules. He will remain under the administrative control of the director of NIT Manipur during the suspension period. The institute said the suspension is a procedural measure and not a final determination of guilt.
