Margao: Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) has undertaken a series of infrastructure upgrades and pre-monsoon maintenance works along its western coastal route, leading to temporary reduction in train speeds and minor delays at certain sections.

The works being carried out include cutting and lowering, ballastless track repairs, track lifting, deep screening, through-track renewal and maintenance of track laying machines. KRCL said these activities are critical to maintaining the structural integrity of tracks and ensuring passenger safety and comfort.

Operating on a single-line railway system with high line capacity utilisation, KRCL said the Konkan Railway route demands meticulous operational management. The route passes through regions of complex terrain and is prone to heavy rainfall across several stretches, making pre-monsoon track inspections and preventive measures essential .

To carry out these works safely, train speeds have been temporarily reduced at certain sections. "These measures are temporary and necessary for long-term operational reliability," a KRCL spokesperson said.

He also added that most pre-monsoon and maintenance activities are expected to be completed by the end of May after which train punctuality is expected to improve significantly.

“Passengers are being regularly updated on train schedules via station announcements, electronic displays, official railway websites and authorised mobile applications”, KRCL said.
