‘Itna Nanga, Besharam Aadmi…’: Piyush Mishra Questions Ranbir Kapoor’s Legacy
Fame, family history and unmatched expectations often shape how actors carry themselves but Ranbir Kapoor, according to Piyush Mishra, seems untouched by all of it. In a recent chat with The Lallantop, the writer-actor revealed why Ranbir stands apart from most stars he has worked with, describing him as someone who moves through Bollywood with remarkable lightness despite belonging to one of its most celebrated film dynasties.
Speaking in a recent conversation with The Lallantop, Mishra reflected on his experiences working with Ranbir in Rockstar and Tamasha. What stood out to him wasn’t just the actor’s sincerity on set, but the ease with which he shed everything once the camera stopped rolling. As Mishra put it, Ranbir becomes “completely light, completely free”, untouched by the expectations that come with being part of one of Hindi cinema’s most storied families.
Summing it up simply, Mishra said, “Arre, don’t even ask that guy is something else," he laughed, adding, “Itna nanga besharam aadmi maine aaj tak nahi dekha!" What struck him most was how Ranbir completely detaches from the Kapoor lineage the moment the camera stops rolling. “He comes from such a long, long legacy his father, his grandfather, his great-grandfather, all the way back to Prithviraj Kapoor. But none of that burdens him. Not even 1%."
During the same conversation, Mishra also spoke emotionally about his late co-star Irrfan Khan, with whom he worked in Haasil. The loss still hurts, he admitted. “He left too soon, yaar. It hurts a lot… he was such a great actor.” While they were not close friends, there was deep respect between them. “To be honest, he wasn’t that close a friend of mine not the way he was with Tigmanshu Dhulia or Vishal Bhardwaj. We told each other, ‘You did good work.’ That’s where a bond formed."
Calling Irrfan “very young” at the time of his passing, Mishra added, “Maybe he and I couldn’t become so close, but I’ve heard he was a wonderful human being. May God give peace to his soul and make his sons great actors."
Irrfan Khan passed away in Mumbai on April 29, 2020, after developing a severe colon infection caused by complications from his prolonged fight with neuroendocrine tumour, a rare cancer he was diagnosed with in 2018.
On the work front, Ranbir Kapoor will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
