'I didn't even use my full name at auditions': Tiku Talsania's daughter Shikha Talsania on nepotism debate

Hero Image
Shikha Talsania , daughter of seasoned actor Tiku Talsania , has made a distinct mark in the entertainment world. Starting her career behind the scenes, she soon transitioned into acting, gaining recognition for her compelling performances and roles that break traditional molds across film, television, and theater. She first caught attention with her impressive debut in 'Wake Up Sid'. Since then, she has delivered thoughtful performances in films like 'Veere Di Wedding', web series such as 'Scoop' and 'Shantit Kranti', and various stage plays.

Choosing the Harder Path

In a candid talk with Moneycontrol, Shikha reflected on her unique path in the industry, addressing the ongoing nepotism debate and her father's legacy. She explained how she deliberately took the tougher route, revealing that during auditions, she wouldn’t even share her full name. “I didn’t even like, in all the auditions I used to give back in the day, I wouldn't even give my entire name — I would just be ‘Shikha T.’ It was my way of functioning and how I wanted to do it," she recalled, highlighting her desire to be judged on her own merit.

A Fine View on Nepotism

Nepotism remains a hot topic in Bollywood, but Shikha sees it as a fine issue. She points out that nepotism exists in every field, including the arts, and believes it’s not for actors to judge, since “everybody’s reality is different.” Unlike many newcomers, she didn’t have to relocate to Mumbai or face the challenges of explaining late-night rides to production vans because her parents, being industry insiders, understood the demands of the business. Her father is a veteran actor, and her brother Rohaan works as a music composer, giving her a unique perspective on the industry.

Current Work

On the work front, Shikha is currently seen in the Hotstar Specials series 'Mistry'. The show features her in a key role alongside a strong cast, including Ram Kapoor and Mona Singh . 'Mistry' is an Indian adaptation of the popular detective series 'Monk', centered on a brilliant ex-cop with OCD who solves complex cases. The series has received positive attention for its performances and storytelling.
