Today Weather in India: Rain Expected in Delhi-NCR Soon; Heatwave Persists in Rajasthan
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 60 kmph across Delhi- NCR on June 11 and June 12. This weather is expected to provide relief from the prevailing heat with temperatures expected to drop to around 35-37 degrees celsius.
Other weather stations across the national capital also reported similar conditions with Palam recording a minimum temperature of 28 degrees celsius while Lodhi road recorded 27.4 degrees celsius.
Meanwhile, locals of Delhi-NCR are eagerly waiting for the onset of southwest monsoon, which entered Kerala on June 4, marking the beginning of India's crucial rainy season. Although the onset was slightly later than usual, meteorologists say weather conditions have become favourable for its gradual advancement across southern and central parts of the country.
According to the Meteorological Department, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in parts of the state in the coming days.
As per the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, Ganganagar was the hottest place in the state at 45.6 degrees Celsius. It was followed by Phalodi at 44.8 degrees, Jaisalmer and Bikaner at 44.0 degrees each, Pilani at 43.8 degrees, Churu at 43.5 degrees, Barmer at 42.8 degrees, Jodhpur at 42.4 degrees and Sangaria at 41.7 degrees Celsius.
While some regions are experiencing monsoon season with the arrival of southwest monsoons, other regions are experiencing severe heat as the southwest monsoon winds have not yet reached those regions. Meteorologists have been closely tracking the advancement of southwest monsoon and are continuously giving updates on its arrival.
Warm Morning Recorded Across Delhi
Despite the recent rainfall, Delhi had recorded a warm start to Tuesday, June 9. The city’s minimum temperature had settled at 29.2 degrees celsius,which is around 1.6 degrees above seasonal average according to the Safdarjung weather station.Other weather stations across the national capital also reported similar conditions with Palam recording a minimum temperature of 28 degrees celsius while Lodhi road recorded 27.4 degrees celsius.
