Kathak legacy honoured through curated solo performances
Santati , an evening devoted to honouring a timeless Kathak legacy , was presented by the Guru Kundanlal Gangani Foundation on November 12 at Triveni Kala Sangam. Curated as a sequence of concentrated solos framed by a cohesive ensemble item, Santati unfolded like a tala cycle – exact, generative and deeply rooted in the idiom of the Jaipur gharana .
Sanjeet Gangani's solo – accompanied by Pandit Fateh Singh Gangani, Kishor Gangani, Ashish Gangani, Azeem Ali and Vinod Gangani – was an act of stewardship, disciplined riyaaz shaping measured chakkars, precise tatkar and a considered abhinaya that conveyed lineage and gravitas. Niritya Dhara brought together Bhavani Devda, Preeti Sheware and Kalyani Chaurasiya exemplified matched bols, focused phrasing and collective poise that paid tribute to an enduring aesthetic.

Kathak solo by Archisa Vishwakarma, accompanied by Harish Gangani, Kishor Gangani, Ashish Gangani and Azeem Ali. Archisa’s performance married exacting tatkar and skilled layakari with refined abhinaya. Deepak Aurora brought the evening with a vigorous solo, accompanied by Yogesh Gangani, Kishor Gangani, Azeem Ali and Vinod Gangani, presenting a compelling dialogue between tala’s architecture and expressive sweep.
Reflecting on the performance, Sanjeet Gangani said, “Santati is an offering to a timeless legacy. We perform to keep the tradition breathing–transmitted through disciplined riyaaz, shared rehearsal and the steady attention of each generation.” The Niritya Dhara ensemble spoke of their work as an exercise in listening–distinct voices aligning to create a single, sustained line of feeling and form.
