Kylian Mbappe forced to leave France camp with injury issue as statement released

Kylian Mbappe has exited the France squad to return to Madrid for tests on an injury. The Real Madrid superstar is suffering from an ankle issue and has not travelled to Azerbaijan as a result.

Mbappe's injury has been a recurring one; the 26-year-old did not travel to Iceland in October for France's draw. However, it's understood there are no fears that the forward will miss Los Blancos' La Liga clash with Elche later this month despite his early return from national team duty.

"Mbappe is still suffering from inflammation in his right ankle, which requires further examination. He will undergo tests today in Madrid," the FFF said in a statement.

Theformer Paris Saint-Germain attacker scored a brace and completed 90 minutes against Ukraine. Mbappe also provided an assist for Hugo Ekitike in the fixture but his injury has been deemed worthy of management with Les Bleus having already secured first spot in their World Cup qualifying group.

Facing Azerbaijan would have offered Mbappea strong opportunity to match or surpass a French record, however. The 2018 World Cup winner has 55 goals for his nation and is now just two short of Olivier Giroud's all-time landmark.

Mbappe's goals against Ukraine saw him bag his 400th career goal, having found the back of the net for Real Madrid, PSG, Monaco and France. France's talisman believes he must do more to capture people's imaginations.

He said: "Now, 400... it doesn't impress people. If you want to be in this circle that shocks people, you have to score another 400!

"Cristiano Ronaldo's 1,000 goals? That is unreal. But let's try the unreal. We have to try it, we only have one career."

"I had to be the best version of myself so that we could go to the World Cup," he added. "Last year was difficult for me in the national team, this season I had to show that the national team is important to me.

"Playing at a World Cup, only those who have done it know how special it is. It is a privilege to represent your country in the eyes of the world. We will go there to win, like all 48 teams. It's a dream to be able to put the third star on the jersey of the France team."

Mbappe was not alone in making the trip across Europe for France's final match of qualification. Eduardo Camavinga and Manu Kone will also be absent.

The Real Madrid midfielder was identified as having a muscle strain in his left hamstring. AS Roma ace Kone is suspended for the match, however, after receiving a yellow card against Ukraine.
