Lando Norris may quit F1 this weekend as shocking confession emerges
Lando Norris could dramatically follow in Nico Rosberg's footsteps and walk away from Formula 1 if he claims the world championship crown this weekend. The McLaren ace currently sits on 390 points in the Drivers' Championship and has the chance to secure his maiden world title with victory at Sunday's Qatar Grand Prix.
The path would have been smoother for the British driver had he and team-mate Oscar Piastri not been disqualified from the Las Vegas Grand Prix for a technical breach.
Both McLarenracers forfeited their points - with Norris losing a podium spot in second place - due to the regulation violation which enabled race winner Max Verstappen to narrow the gap on Piastri in the championship fight.
Despite this, Norris remains at the top of the leaderboard and confessed back in August that he might follow Rosberg by hanging up his helmet as F1champion.
During the Dutch Grand Prix, the 26-year-old said: "It is sometimes good to go out when you've won like Nico. Just one championship.
"You don't have to do anymore. You achieved a little goal and go and live an amazing life."

When pressed about his intentions for the 2026 campaign, Norris grinned and added: "I don't know. Maybe. I might not be here next year. You never know."
The parallels with Rosberg are striking, following the Mercedes star's choice to wave goodbye to F1 merely five days after capturing his first and only world championship title.
The German said at the time: "For 25 years in racing, it has been my dream, my 'one thing' to become Formula One world champion.
"Through the hard work, the pain, this has been my target. And now I have made it. I am on the peak, so this feels right."
History seems to be echoing itself for Norris. Rosberg had a similar battle with an ex-teammate - Lewis Hamilton - and a Red Bull driver, Daniel Ricciardo, for the title.
In 2025, the Brit is squaring off against McLaren star Piastri and Red Bull's Verstappen in his own quest for glory.
With victories in the Qatari Sprint and Grand Prix, Norris could fulfil his lifelong dream - and possibly bow out at the top.
