Fortnite OG is bringing back a controversial weapon that everyone hated

Fortnite OG is scheduled to start Chapter 7 on December 11, recreating the iconic season from way back in 2018 - for better and for worse.

While fans are excited to get stuck into all the great things that classic season had to offer - like the inclusion of biplanes, balloons and a healthy dusting of snow across a third of the map - there's one major feature that players are less excited to see return.

The controversial Infinity Blade is coming back to Fortnite, widely known to be one of the most overpowered weapons the game has ever seen.

Needless to say, fans have mixed emotions about the return of this particular weapon.

Back in the day, only one of these monstrous melee weapons would appear each match. Players would be forced to scramble to find it before anyone else with the wielder more than likely headed for a quick and easy Victory Royale.

There was one major downside to wielding this weapon, though. Players will also need to give up their entire inventory to hold it, meaning there's no chance of a quick heal in firefights.

Despite this drawback, the blade still proved incredibly powerful thanks to its massive damage output and the impressive movement abilities it bestows. Players could even negate fall damage by initiating a charge attack, and the sword would slowly regenerate any lost shield back to 100%.

The Infinity Blade proved so game-breakingly broken that Epic Games was forced to put the weapon on ice after only a few days. It's never been seen in Fortnite again until now when OG Chapter 7 heralds its return.

The good news is that the Infinity Blade won't be available right at the start of the new season. Epic Games has it listed as coming a few weeks down the line, so players will at least have some time to experience the new chapter without the looming threat of the overpowered weapon.

There's been no comment from Epic on whether the weapon will have seen significant nerfs or if the sword is set to give newcomers the 'authentic' Chapter 7 experience.

Either way, players will likely make their opinions heard if the Infinity Blade starts causing havoc with match balancing once again. After all, here's what some players said about the blade back in 2018: "I'm on the edge of not playing anymore and giving it a break... The planes can be balanced, but the sword is very close to making me have to move onto better games that I enjoy playing."

Another Redditor said: "This sword has taken all the fun out of the game, countless people have stated they will not play until it is removed."
