New Secure PAN Card: How PAN 2.0 Helps Prevent Fraud and Identity Misuse

The government has rolled out PAN 2.0 as a major step towards fraud prevention , giving users a more secure PAN card with advanced features. This upgraded version comes with a laser-printed QR code PAN that stores details like your name, date of birth, PAN number and photo in encrypted form. The PAN 2.0 update makes counterfeiting extremely difficult and ensures faster and safer verification anywhere. If you are still using an old PAN card, completing the PAN update now will help you stay secure, and the online PAN upgrade fee is only ₹50.

One of the biggest conveniences of PAN 2.0 is that the entire online PAN upgrade can be done from home, making the secure PAN card process faster and easier. The government has authorised two agencies, NSDL (now Protean) and UTIITSL, to handle PAN update services. The agency responsible for your PAN is printed on the back of your current card. Based on that, you must apply on the correct website to complete your PAN 2.0 update for fraud prevention and QR code PAN activation.

Process to convert a PAN issued by NSDL to PAN 2.0

Those completing an online PAN upgrade through NSDL must first visit the official PAN service portal. Select the Reprint of PAN Card option to begin your secure PAN card update. After entering your PAN number, Aadhaar number and date of birth, you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number or email ID. Once the OTP is verified, the fee of ₹50 must be paid to continue the PAN 2.0 update. After submission, the QR code PAN is generated quickly, with physical delivery expected within 15 to 20 days and a downloadable soft copy available within 24 hours. This PAN 2.0 process helps ensure fraud prevention through stronger digital verification.

How to update a PAN card from UTIITSL

If your existing PAN was issued by UTIITSL, the PAN 2.0 update must be done through the UTIITSL website. Select the Reprint PAN Card option and enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number and date of birth. The online PAN upgrade steps, including OTP verification and the ₹50 fee payment, remain the same as NSDL. The secure PAN card with the QR code PAN will then be delivered to your home, giving you the added benefit of improved fraud prevention through encrypted PAN data .

Security and benefits of PAN 2.0

The strongest feature of PAN 2.0 is the QR code PAN, which makes verification near-instant while strengthening fraud prevention. The encrypted data ensures that fake PAN cards cannot be produced easily, reducing the risk of identity misuse. With this secure PAN card, tax filing, banking verification and compliance become much smoother. The PAN 2.0 update is seen as a major digital upgrade, reinforcing secure identity systems in the country.
