'I Feel Very Bad': Mamata Reacts After Football Statue Removal From Kolkata Stadium

The ‘Biswa Bangla’ logo installed outside the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake, Kolkata, has been removed by the government led by Suvendu Adhikari, triggering a strong reaction from Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She said she had designed the logo herself and expressed disappointment over its dismantling, recalling that it was appreciated by sports lovers and even an Under-17 FIFA team. The TMC has alleged that the move is politically motivated and aimed at erasing Mamata Banerjee’s identity and Bengal’s cultural contributions. Party leaders claimed that such actions are intended to remove symbols associated with the previous government across the state. However, administrative sources stated that the removal is part of a broader policy to beautify the stadium and replace political or past government branding with national and sports-related symbols.
