'Possibilities For Expansion': Argentinian Envoy On Trade Partnership With India

Argentina’s Ambassador to India, Mariano Caucino, underscored the importance of the India-Argentina trade partnership, currently valued at $5 billion, making India Argentina’s sixth-largest trade partner. Argentina is India’s top supplier of soybean oil and ranks third in sunflower oil exports. Indian firms have also invested in Argentina’s mining sector, including lithium, with potential for growth in energy and other sectors. Ambassador Caucino highlighted the 2004 India-MERCOSUR Preferential Trade Agreement, effective from 2009, noting its limited coverage. He suggested that expanding the agreement and addressing India’s high import duties could further boost trade. Both countries see significant opportunities to deepen economic ties, enhance investment, and strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple industries.
