Ram Mandir's 'Garbh Griha' To Complete By Year-end

House Of Lord Rama

The ‘garbh griha’ (sanctum sanctorum) of the Ram temple in Ayodhya will be completed by December 2023, while the rest of the construction will continue. The temple complex will span 2.75 acres and house the deity of Lord Rama.

Ramayana Carvings

The devotees who visit the temple will be able to see the entire Ramayana story inscribed on the walls of the temple while doing the parikrama (circumambulation). The first tile will depict the Putrakameshti Yagna (a ritual for having children) performed by King Dasharatha.

Lord Rama's Return

The last tile will show Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. The temple complex will also have structures for other important characters and sages from the Ramayana. These structures will showcase their roles and contributions in the epic.

Protection From Extreme Weather

The temple trust wants to make the pilgrims comfortable and safe from the weather. They are thinking of using different stones for the path to the temple complex, or putting a canopy on the parikrama route to protect the pilgrims from heat, rain, and other problems.

Red Sandstone

The temple is being built with red sandstone, which has a tendency to absorb heat. The sandstone is being carved with intricate designs and motifs by skilled artisans. More than 4.5 lakh cubic feet of sandstone will be used for the temple construction.

White Marble

Makrana white marble, known for quality and durability, will be used for the temple floor and ceiling. It will also have white carvings or paintings to contrast with red sandstone. The main ‘garbh griha’ will be all white.

12 Doors

The temple has been designed in a way to allow maximum ventilation and sunlight inside the complex. There are 12 doors under the mandaps (pillared halls) that will house the idols of other characters from the Ramayana. These doors will also facilitate easy movement of devotees.

New Elements

The temple trust has added several new elements within the complex to offer a complete experience to the pilgrims around the Ramayana theme. These include a museum, a library, a research centre, a food court, a souvenir shop and a meditation centre.

Carvings On Pillars

The carvings on the pillars of the temple are also underway. These will depict various scenes and events from the Ramayana, such as Lord Rama’s exile, his meeting with Hanuman, his battle with Ravana, and his coronation. These will also feature floral and geometric patterns.

Work On Schedule

The construction work of the temple is going on according to the schedule and work on setting up temple structures for important characters and senior sages from the Ramayana is under way. Out of the more than 4.5 lakh cubic feet of sandstone, 1.7 lakh cubic feet have been used.
