Ernakulam: Two youths nabbed with 16kg ganja

KOCHI: In a major ganja seizure, Ernakulam North police on Saturday night nabbed two youths from Kaloor and recovered 16kg of ganja from them.


The accused were identified as Feroz and Shafeek, both aged 24 and residents of Valancheri in Malappuram. Police nabbed them from Kaloor private bus stand, where the duo alighted with the ganja, following a tip-off received from sources.

Police said the duo was linked to the mafia operating interstate ganja smuggling and trade. The seized ganja was brought from Andhra Pradesh and was meant for sale in lesser quantities to those dealers engaged in ganja trade in the city. Police said that their arrest would be recorded after preliminary procedures.

One held for sexual abuse: Kalamassery police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly sexually abusing a woman after promising to marry her. The accused, Unnikrishnan of Sulthan Bathery, who was married, befriended the woman through phone calls and started a live-in relationship with her. The woman approached police after realizing that she has been cheated. The accused has been booked under Section 376 of the IPC.

Man arrested in cheating case: Piravom police, on Saturday, arrested a person for allegedly cheating job aspirants after giving false job offers in Australia. Police said the accused, Saravanan (42) of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, used to collect Rs 75,000 from each candidate by offering them jobs in Australia. As many as 22 people were learnt to have fallen prey to the fraud. Police had been in search of him ever since his agent Robert was arrested around six months ago. A case invoking IPC Sections 420 and 406 has been registered against him. The accused was produced in the court and remanded in judicial custody.
