Escape of Undertrial prisoner: Five officials suspended in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: The Nayagarh superintendent of police (SP) on Sunday suspended five personnel, including a havildar on the charges of dereliction of duty. The action on errant officials has been taken after an undertrial prisoner (UTP) escaped from Khandapada sub-jail on August 9.

All the five police personnel were deployed as guards for escorting and production of the UTP Tapan Rout from Khandapada sub-jail to Bhapur court.

Taking advantage of lazy security guards, Rout had managed to escape from their custody.

“The accused has managed to flee, while he was being taken to the court. The duty officials, who were escorting the accused persons have been suspended,” said Nayagarh additional SP, Dillip Sahani.

Interestingly, it was for the third time in three months that Tapan, who was arrested from Fategarh area in the district for allegedly raping a minor girl, gave the cops a slip.

According to reports, Rout had first escaped from the jail by climbing the boundary wall on August 3. Prior to it, Rout had escaped from the jail on June 10.
