Ex-Maharashtra IPS officer VV Lakshminarayana joins actor-politician Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party

Amravati: Retired Maharashtra cadre IPS officer VV Lakshminarayana joined the Jana Sena Party of actor-politician Pawan Kalyan. Pawan formally inducted him into the party on Sunday. A clarity on Lakshminarayana’s preference to contest for Assembly or Lok Sabha is expected in a day or two.

Lakshminarayana’s move comes as a surprise to political circles in Andhra Pradesh. Till he met Pawan on Saturday evening, he was believed to be joining the Telugu Desam Party. A TDP leader met him in Hyderabad last week, following which the news of his joining the TDP spread. The opposition YSR Congress criticised him saying he had exhibited his true colours now. As joint director of the CBI in Hyderabad, Lakshminarayana had investigated the sensational disproportionate assets case against YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy in 2011. Jagan was in jail for 16 months as remand prisoner. The YSR Congress alleged that Lakshminarayana had worked under the guidance of TDP president Chandrababu Naidu.

Springing surprise on all, the former IPS officer met Pawan Kalyan on Saturday evening and set the muhurat for joining the party on Sunday.

Lakshminarayana had quit Indian Police Service with an objective to work for farmers and to bring change in politics.
