Ex-MP Puglia demands CBI inquiry into Rajura rape case

Chandrapur: Senior Congress leader and former MP Naresh Puglia slammed the Crime Investigation Department (CID) for making no progress in the Rajura tribal girls’ abuse case and demanded CBI inquiry on Saturday. He also demanded that chief minister Devendra Fadnavis should visit Chandrapur to meet the survivors and review the progress of the case.

Puglia is the only Congress leader in district vocal about the abuse case. He was first Congress leader to flay the abuse of tribal girls and take up demand of stringent action against the perpetrators, despite the fact that the case is related to school owned by former MLA of his party.

On Saturday, Puglia claimed that CID has made no fresh arrest. Even after three weeks of taking over the case, the CID has apparently made no positive progress in the investigation, he said, expressing his dissatisfaction over the approach of the investigating agency.

Puglia claimed that president of the state women commission had visited Rajura and had expressed dissatisfaction over slow progress of the investigations. Principal secretary of tribal department had also visited Rajura and met the survivors. “Now that CM Fadnavis is free after the election campaign, it is high time that he visits Chandrapur to meet the survivors and their parents and review the progress of the case,” he said.

He claimed that even the minister of state for home affairs, Hansraj Ahir, has demanded CBI inquiry into the case. “If CID is unable to crack the mystery, the state government should immediately go for CBI inquiry,” he said. Puglia also claimed that, if situation demand, he would also move high court demanding CBI inquiry.
