Excise officials seize 815kg ganja at Narsipatnam

Visakhapatnam: Officials of the prohibition and excise department seized over 815 kilograms of dry ganja worth Rs one crore and nabbed one person while he was transporting the contraband in a lorry near the Degree College at Narsipatnam in Visakhapatnam district. The arrested has been identified as Narayana M, a native of Odisha.

Based on information, officials intercepted the lorry and recovered the dry ganja, which had been concealed under pulses and cereals.

The investigation has revealed that Narayana is the owner and driver of the vehicle and had procured the contraband from tribal pockets in Visakhapatnam Agency and was transporting it to Visakhapatnam and parts of Odisha.

Officials suspect that some ganja smugglers helped Narayana procure and transport the substance. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way to nab other persons in connection with the case.
