Explosives missing from Idukki quarry

Idukki: Over 800 gelatine sticks and 200 detonators have gone missing from a quarry in Idukki and the police have started a probe. The godown of the quarry unit at Chathurangappara in Idukki was broke into on July 8 and the explosives were stolen.

Udumbanchola police have registered a case and a special team has started the probe.

The missing explosives were stocked in the store room of the quarry. Police suspect the incident occurred around 2am.

The police have got CCTV visuals of two bikes and a jeep reaching the spot during the day.

Munnar deputy SP M Rameshkumar said: “We suspect there is a chance of Maoist involvement behind the stolen explosives.”
